I recently picked up the new Osight X Open Reflex Sight | Multi Reticle System.
I’ll be honest. I’ve never been a fan of handgun red dots. I love my iron sights. But after running the Osight Red Dot for a month… I might be a convert.
I didn’t buy it because I believed in it. I bought it on a whim as a training tool. Something to experiment with. Something to challenge myself.
First impression? Its just another red dot, how good can it be!
Constructed from Olight’s proprietary OAL aluminum alloy, the housing feels rugged. It survived multiple rack-off-barrier drills without losing zero or showing significant marring.
The Charging Cover: This is the game-changer. The magnetic snap is secure, and the OLED display on the cover removes the guesswork of battery life. It essentially turns your storage time into charging time.
Footprint: Using the industry-standard RMR footprint is a smart move, ensuring it fits most milled slides or plate systems without needing custom adapters.
The attention to detail on this product is next level. Even the packaging tells you they’ve thought this through. The box is so well laid out you almost don’t want to open it. Everything has its place. The screws aren’t just dumped in a bag like most brands do. Each one is individually labelled in a proper case. Simple thing, but it matters.
You get a magnetic charging cover, a proper adjustment tool, and even a small bag to keep things organised. Nothing feels cheap. Nothing feels like an afterthought.
After mounting it on my handgun, the first thing that stood out was the window. It’s big. Really big. For the first time, I could actually pick up the dot instantly without hunting for it.
And shooting with it?
Feels like cheating. In a good way.
Alphas became easy. Not “I got lucky” easy. Consistent. That big red circle just sits there and lets you get to work.
Now let’s talk about the real game changer.
The Osight magnetic charging cover.
This alone solves one of the biggest frustrations with red dot sights. No more digging through your range bag looking for batteries. No more nonsense.
Yes, you do need to be a grown-up and remember to charge the cover. But it’s not a mission. One full charge on the cover gives you about three full charges on the optic.
Charging is quick. Simple. Clean.
I charge mine while it’s still in the holster. Clip the cover on, run the lanyard through my belt so I don’t drop it, and carry on with my day. The optic charges while I move. No downtime.
I pop my cover on once a week for a few hours.
Pros:
Eliminates the need to remove the optic for battery changes.
Extremely clear glass for its price point.
OLED battery status on the cover provides total peace of mind.
Cons:
The charging cover is another piece of gear to keep track of.

One thing I didn’t expect, but actually matters, is the warranty. Osight backs this with a proper lifetime warranty. Not marketing fluff. If the optic fails under normal use, they repair or replace it. Simple. No expiry, no nonsense. On top of that, there’s a 30-day return window if you change your mind, as long as the unit is still in new condition. For me, that removes a lot of the risk, especially if you’re not fully sold on running a dot.
This optic makes the most sense for:
Shooters moving from iron sights to red dots
IPSC or sport shooting where speed matters
Anyone who struggles to find the dot quickly
If you’re already deep into optics, you’ll still appreciate the charging system and window size.
To be fair – not much that I don’t like.
The Osight X has a setting where it adjusts in brightness automatically, I have played with it but have not managed to get it set the way I would like. Its more than likely a me thing. My brain hates fiddling with buttons. I will play with it a bit in the future and maybe get it working perfectly. Is it a reason not to buy this sight – definitely not!
So… would I recommend it?
Hell yes.
